Not a Loser: Elysian Loser Pale Ale

Loser Pale Ale (7.0% ABV, 57 IBU) What caught my eye first when I saw this beer was the name. I think its safe to say that most people would, with a big loser across the label. Its a pale ale and above the word loser is the phrase “Corporate Beer Still Sucks.” Well said. The micro is officially called Loser Pale Ale (7.0% ABV, 57 IBU) and comes from a northwest brewery Elysian Brewing Company wich is located in Seattle. This respectfully tasting beer had a fluffy head and presented with a cloudy, opaque copper color. The citrusy...

Fiendishly Dry-Hopped Belgium Ale: The Bruery Mischief (video)

The Bruery Mischief Belgian Ale 8.5% Last week I reviewed Piraat Ale that was dubbed a Hoppy Belgian Ale and I didn’t really taste any of the hops, so I wanted to take another shot and see if this too could rock my socks. Enters The Bruery Mischief Ale who’s description on the label is as follows: Not quite evil, yet not to be trusted, this Golden Ale is effervescent, dry, hoppy and crisp – you’ll want to keep an eye out. With that sort of marketing I was anxious to give the Bruery Mischief Ale a once over,  this...

In Memory of Ryan Casey: Piraat Belgian Ale (video)

Piraat Ale 10.5% ABV In mainstream American cinema, often times what defines a well balanced story is one that has a beginning, middle and end. Our sense of a linear timeline where “A whole is what has a beginning and middle and end” – Aristotle, permeates our modern day culture and allows us to think less because the dramatic arc has been predefined. Translating that classical sense of dramatic arc into real life, often opens the door of disappointment, leaving us lost in a world full of questions and so few answers. Life is linear and accompanying that sense of direction comes structure, with structure you have...

Lithuanian Lobster Lovers Beer

Lobsters Lovers Beer (9.5% ABV) I had lunch today at one of my old favorite Greek/Eastern European delis (old because I havent been there in over a year) and tore up their very delicious beef and lamb gyro. Yum! While I waited for my order I strolled by their various sections of various foreign brands of food, wine and reading material. Somehow I was mysteriously pulled to the beer section without protest I might add. Wow I thought as I gazed them over. Many were pilsers which I wasnt looking for. Other labels were in Cyrillic which I have...

Phat Matt’s IPA

Phat Matt’s IPA (7% ABV, 64 IBU) Man, have I mentioned here that I love IPAs? I’m both a student and a slave of the hop infused liquidity sustenance known as a micro IPA. I always get excited when a new one drenches my palate. Which is what happened for this post’s tasting. Cruising the micro section of a nearby convenience store I saw Phat Matt’s IPA (7% ABV, 64 IBU) and I instantly grabbed it. I’m not really sure why but I wonder if the label’s pic of the phat dude looks like your’s truly. Ha. This phatty...
