Is 13 Really My Lucky Number? Bottleworks 13th Anniversary Ale (video)

Bottleworks 13th Anniversary Ale 11% ABV I’m finishing out my stint of reviews on beers with the number 13 in the title with Bottleworks 13th Anniversary Ale. This beer is actually brewed by Stone Brewing company for Bottleworks Beer store in the Seattle, Washington area. For this brew they went BIG and used 13 different hops and 13 different grains and really were able to make a good beer despite throwing the kitchen sink in on this beer. The beer is very complex and  I falls between a barleywine and a stout but with no clear defined style on the label,...

Seeing Pumpkins with Fordham Spiced Harvest Ale

Spiced Harvest Ale – 6.6% ABV Folks, it’s getting to be that time of year again. The kids are preparing to don the silly costumes in a quest for candy treasure and the seasons continue their shift out of summer, into fall and towards winter. For those of us who seek out malty quaff treasures for ourselves, this time of year is generally reserved for a few things – Oktoberfest and fall-seasonal releases. Double Take IPA – if you see it look away

Double Take IPA – ABV 6.9%, 70 IBU Double Take IPA from New York (or is it?). The beer’s label states that the beer is “brewed by Brewmaster’s Choice in Rochester, NY.” But here’s the paradox … the label (and beer’s website) implies the beers comes from a brewery called Double Take Brewing Co. hence the name. The site describes the company as one that makes “premium craft beer” however the only thing is there isn’t a craft brewery that actually brews the premium craft beer at least one that I could identify on said site or by researching it on...

A Spicy Summer Brew in Fall – The Bruery Orchard White

The Bruery Orchard White – 5.7% ABV When it comes to new flavors, I’m all about trying something new. Variety is the spice of life after all. I found a nice little ditty in Orchard White by The Bruery. I’ve had witbiers before, and I have enjoyed them all (for the most part), but this was my first foray into tasting anything with lavender in it. Lavender, you say? Indeed I did. This gave the beer a bit of a crisp, spicy element to the mouthfeel and definitely set it apart from anything else I’ve had in this style. I got...

Alcoholism and Craft Beer! My Struggle to Manage and Overcome my Fears

As a child, I remember trying to fall asleep in my room and hearing the sound of a can of beer being opened in the living room, it would send shivers down my spine and make me worry about how this night was going to turn out. Was it going to be another all-nighter worrying about that barge into my room or was I actually going to get some sleep this night. See growing up as a kid I had to deal with alcoholism in my family which made me develop this fear of touching anything alcohol related. To this day...
