Summer Weddings and Craft Beer – A Good Fit?

Summer Weddings and Craft Beer Most people I know understand that I’m up to my eyeballs planning my wedding. We just passed the two month mark on the wedding countdown calendar. I’m calling vendors galore, setting up meetings, trying to make sure deposits are paid, etc. I need a drink. And voila! A light bulb came on over my head. Most of this wedding stuff is being produced DIY (Do-It-Yourself) because that’s how I roll. I’ve always been one of those hands-on types. Besides, that’s a great way to save some cheddar when it comes to your big day. When the time came for me to choose my booze selection, I went over all the prototypes – open bar, beer & wine, pre-mix cocktails, etc etc. I thought to myself that one thing I could definitely do to make this even more of a DIY-style wedding would be to cook up some homebrew for everyone to enjoy. Enter my good friend/colleague/fellow brewer and beer lover Irving. I threw the idea out to him a while back and we brainstormed what styles of beers we wanted to do. Since this will be a summer wedding and the heat will most likely play a factor, Irv thought it would be good to do a Saison – light to medium body, refreshing, not too bitter or dry, just about right. My Go To Session IPA (updated)

*Initially I could not find Stone Go To IPA , a beer I wanted to include in the original posting on 6/2/14. On 6/12/14 this post was updated to reflect my thoughts on Stone, after finding it, but it did not change my thoughts on the best session IPA of the bunch. For the past month I have been trying different session IPA to see if they could really give me the flavor I wanted from an IPA and yet still be lighter in alcohol. I tried four of the more highly rated ones I could find on the...

A Trip to Paradise – My Week in Mexican Craft Beer Hell

Craft Beer Hell So maybe the phrase craft beer hell is a little extreme, but if you know anything about me, you understand my love for craft beer over the macro stuff. 2014 National Homebrew Conference – Grand Rapids

National Homebrew Conference I am wiggling in my seat as I type this because the 2014 National Homebrew Conference (NHC) is right around the corner. ┬áThis year’s conference is being held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which just happens to be where I went to college and is near my hometown in West Michigan. ┬áThe conference theme, “Mashing In Michigan” is a opportunity for 4, 000 homebrewers like myself to come together and learn specifics about making better beer, discussing processes, procedures, chemistry, getting professional advice and obviously enjoying homebrewed beer. This year’s NHC will have 55 different seminars, 80...
