Stone Brewing Enjoy By 4.20.14
Ever wonder what its like to run face first into a pine tree while sucking on a grapefruit? Well, it is exactly like drinking a Stone Enjoy By double IPA. Stone Brewing has made waves for the past year with their Enjoy By series of double IPAs and, rightfully so. If you are unfamiliar with Enjoy By (which by the way….shame on you), the idea is to enjoy a fresh double IPA by the date on the bottle. Drinking by the stated date will give you an unbelievable fresh beer full of its intended color, aroma and taste.
I have had the opportunity to find drink a few of Stone’s Enjoy By series, but today I would like to highlight Enjoy By 4.20.14.
Aroma: Upon cracking the bottle open, prior to pouring into my glass, I was greeted by intense aromas of dank resin and pine. To say I was excited is an understatement. Upon the first smell, I picked up the similar aroma of dank resin and pine with a hint of citrus pith, specifically grapefruit.
Appearance: The beer pours a beautifully bright and clear orange. The abundance of white head sits nicely on top and leaves a nice lace as it dissipates.
Flavor: Yep….just like running into a pine tree while sucking on a grapefruit. This beer is wonderfully hopped so that provides a dank resin and pine flavor while noticing a citrus bite in the middle. The beer finishes with a warm savory booze taste. The hops are center stage as the malt is subdued yet provides enough sweetness to cut the bitterness. The flavor is spot on, I can’t say enough good things about this beer.
Mouth-feel: The beer is medium-heavy body. The carbonation is right on the money with this brew. The beer is provides a warming sensation and finishes with a resin-oily mouth-feel that lingers until the next sip.
Overall Impression….delicious! I was extremely impressed with beer, despite being more of a fan of citrus focused IPAs and DIPAs. Stone Enjoy By continues to uphold their reputation of providing quality and fresh beers. If you happen to find a bottle(s) of Stone’s Enjoy By, do yourself a favor and pick it up. Running into a dank and resinous pine tree while swallowing grapefruits never felt so good.
