It was a cold and rainy Saturday in June and here I was in Greenport, NY looking for something to do. Having run the gamut of the three block shopping area with my family,  I was eager to take on something with bravado . I did a quick Yelp search for “brewery” to see how far Southampton Publik House was and up popped another brewery literally around the corner from where I stood.  SCORE! After the carousel ride and the gift shops,  we went to Greenport Harbor Brewery for a quick wetting of the palate.

The brewery is very small and walking up the flight of stairs to the tasting room you are greeted by a room with a bar, art adorned over each corner of the wall and a small gift shop. The deal is $5 gets you a 5 ounce pour of the eight beers scribbled on the chalkboard behind the bar. Harbour Ale, Black Duck Porter, Canard Noir, Havre Rouge, English IPA, Triton, Spring Turning, Summer Ale.

Among the eight there are two stand out beers, Spring Turning and Black Duck Porter. They are all quality beers and you’ll taste them all during the flight but those two are the ones that stand out amongst other beers in the category. Not wanting to get too inebriated with my daughter and wife I opted for smaller pours of them all, except for the two mentioned.

The brewery is new and you get a feel for that from the men working on lighting fixtures in the tasting room to no tour of the facility offered.  If you are in Greenport or on the North Fork of Long Island take a stop over to the brewery, its a nice gem amongst the dozens and dozens of wineries and you be pleasantly surprised at this little gem in the sea of grapes.
